Time sometimes creates wounds

While vacationing in West Virginia a couple of weeks ago with my SO and his family we decided to take a hike up the hill behind the house we were staying at. On this hill lies a house that once belonged to his family many, many years ago. The house since has gone in disrepair and appears to be abandoned, but I couldn't help but see the beauty this house once had when it was warm with life from family and friends. Some may look and see ruin, but I see the past. A past that was full of laughter, and tears, and many children running throughout. The smell of pies and hearty foods cooking. The vision of Christmas trees and other seasonal holiday adornments float through my mind's eye as well.
I was fortunate enough, during my stay, to visit his Grandmother and actually stumble upon the pictures of the family in that home. Unfortunately, I was not able to take them with me to share in comparison to the photos I am about to share.
I do not have an expensive camera, in fact mine is about 3-4 years old now. I try to take the best pictures I can with the equipment I have so I hope you enjoy some of my work.

When I returned home I sent the pictures to his Grandmother, she was thankful for all of the pictures I took, but I couldn't help but find in her words a tiny bit of sorrow as she also remembers what the house once was when she lived there with her siblings.
What may be art to some may create some wounds for others, and that is the beauty of it. The ability to see all things and interpret it in your own way.

  1. love the photographs...you took trully memorable pictures, which if I put myself in your shoes I can see, as you said, a family life, reunions, dinners, parties, kids running around, the chandelier above the dinner table.....

    Very touching details :)

  2. West Virginia? You should have stopped by and visited Lagniappe the retired police dog and me. We give great tours around Harpers Ferry and he loves to have his picture taken.

As for me...well I don't show up on film.
